In the late 1980s, NASA and the Associated Landscape Contractor of America conducted studies on houseplants and their air purifying properties. They found that several common houseplants can help clean the air indoors by removing various airborne toxins present in your home or office, including formaldehyde, xylene, acetone and more. Here are 10 great plants to purify your home or office!
1. Peace Lily

Peace lilies make for a great addition to indoor spaces with their shiny green leaves. They are relatively easy to look after. Peace lilies also grow magnificent white flowers.
2. Pothos
Pothos are very resilient plants that can grow in indirect bright areas but can also grow equally as well in low brightness areas. Pothos can make a great addition to a bathroom or office.
3. Spider Plant
These green and white plants are easy to maintain. They do not require too much water and just need a little bit of indirect sunlight. Spider plants can be divided from the mother plant creating a whole new plant.
4. Philodendron
Philodendrons grow very well indoors but are also capable of growing well outdoors in a shaded area in the summer months. They require bright indirect light so they would make a perfect addition to indoor spaces.
5. Boston Fern
Boston ferns need a cooler environment with more humidity. The soil should be damp to ensure the plant is healthy. If the plant begins to turn yellow it can be caused by a lack of humidity. The Boston fern would make for a great gift or addition to your home.
6. Snake Plant
These plants are one of the easiest plants to look after. They can grow in low light environments and also do not require too much water. You can also cut the snake plant and plant it to grow more.
7. Aloe Vera
Aloe veras are very resilient and can survive even if you forget to water it once or twice. The plant should be watered every couple weeks and the plant should be in a bright sunny area. Aloe veras will give your indoor place a tropical feel.
8. Anthuriums
Anthuriums require bright indirect light and need to be watered until the soil is moist. Meeting these conditions will lead to the exotic red flowers that these plants are most known for. These plants can bloom throughout the year.
9. Bamboo Palm

Bamboo palms will give a tropical feel to any room you put it in. It is also easy to maintain, only needing water when the surface of the soil is dry. When healthy, the bamboo palm will have large dark green fronds.
10. Rubber Plant
Rubber plants can come in many different sizes. They can grow tall in the right conditions. In the summer the plant can be kept outside but make sure it is not in direct sunlight. The rubber plant will require more water in the summer months and in the winter months you should water it once or twice every month.
